I often wonder what are the things that make a good marriage, great. Its a hard question, and one that has been bouncing around in my brain. One thing I know, I bet my answer and Marks answer are totally different. More than that, I would bet my answer, and anyone else’s is totally different. You see, I am learning, no two people, or full family have the same needs.
One of the best books I have read that deals with marriage is The Five Love languages by Gary Chapman. Mark and I both read it when we were dating, and often still find ourselves discussing our different love languages and needs. In a conversation we had last week, we even discussed it in terms of how we deal with the kiddos. It was an interesting conversation, and in it, I realized, that kids even have certain needs too. Some need quality time, some prefer acts of kindness. But, learning how to love the people in your lives is crucial no matter whether its your children or your spouse.
So, since communication has become my current marriage focus, I think I am going to reread this book, and maybe add a few more to the library. Easy reading, and life altering- win! win!
