One of my BIGGEST opinions is that all seniors should get professional makeup application and hair styling the day of their session. A lot of photographers don’t agree with me(and that’s certainly ok) and think that clients should be in charge of their own makeup and hair for their senior portrait session.
Getting your hair and makeup professionally done for your senior photo session can significantly enhance your overall experience and the final result of your photos. And getting it done by a pro doesn’t have to mean overly done or glamorous, its actually the opposite! It means having it done like you WANT IT! But there are some extra reasons why its worthwhile too! Here are five reasons why it’s we require professional makeup for your session….
5 reasons for pro makeup
Polished and Flawless Look: Professional hair and makeup artists know how to enhance your natural features and create a polished look that translates beautifully on camera. They can even out your skin tone, highlight your best features, and ensure your hairstyle complements your outfit and face shape. My Makeup artist uses air brushing which matches your skin tone perfectly, and creates a soft, touchable finish, and also reduces shine. This is very important in photos because the camera picks up on ALL the shine!
Boost in Confidence: Feeling confident is key to looking great in photos. When you know you look your best, it shows in your expressions and posture. Professional hair and makeup can give you that extra boost of confidence, allowing you to relax and enjoy the session.
Long-Lasting Results: Professionals use high-quality products designed to last through hours of shooting. This ensures your makeup won’t fade or your hair won’t fall flat as the session progresses, so you look fresh from start to finish. Sweat, humidity, water and heat will have nothing on your super fab face!
Expert Knowledge of Camera-Ready Makeup: The makeup you wear every day might not be the best for photos. Professionals understand how to apply makeup that works well under different lighting conditions and can prevent common issues like shine or flashback, where makeup reflects light unnaturally.
Customized to Your Style: A professional artist can work with you to achieve a look that reflects your personal style. Whether you want something natural or more glamorous, they can tailor their approach to match your vision, ensuring that you feel like yourself in your photos.
Now you may ask, what about HAIR! Hair is included too, and honestly reduces the stres son your day as well! The only time I don’t recommend hair is for very naturally curly hair, that you style very specifically, and want set for your photos. I get it, curls take time to dry, and you have a set way you love them! But if you want something different on that wavy or straight hair, the products of pros help it last longer, and withstand the crazy Florida weather! It also means YOU don’t have to deal with it on your session day! That’s a win/win!
Extra accessories to wow for hair
Since we end up doing about 8 looks on your session, adding hair accessories can elevate your look, and show off your style! Adding accessories that match your style is always a great extra! Hair clips, barrettes, ribbons, headbands, and hair jewelry are all great ways to change your look through out the session, without messing with your overall look. Hats and scarves can be a fun look too! Don’t worry, I always bring stuff along on a shoot day, but if you eye something specific its a great thing to bring with you!
Valentina, class of 2024, is a great example of a perfect natural look! Erin did such an amazing job of keeping her skin detail, and highlighting her beautiful features! And of course, it lasted from the first photo, to the last!
Our clients LOVE that we don’t throw them to the wolves when it comes to getting session
day ready. If you’d like that kind of attention to detail, we are here for you!
