The park requires a day pass, so plan for that as part of your visit. Because it's about 25 minutes south of St. Augustine, this is more of an intentional day trip than something we tack onto another session, and we'll plan timing around that.

Timing & Getting Around

Unlike the sandy beaches everywhere else on this list, Washington Oaks has a coastline made of coquina rock and tide pools, a dramatic, textured backdrop that photographs like nowhere else nearby. Just up the road, there is also Matanza Inlet, which offers les wind, a small beach, and the perfect view of the western sunset.

On the Intracoastal side of the park, a formal garden with more than 150 rose bushes and a two hundred to three hundred year old oak tree gives us a completely different, softer look in the same session.

This park gives us two completely different settings in one visit,and also is a backdrop that includes flowers- which are rare in Florida. The blooms are seasonal and weather dependent.
