Whew! Its your senior year, and you are so excited about ALL THE THINGS… including senior photos. But, you are looking for some inspiration, and ideas, a lucky for you, you have come to the right spot! You want a variety of senior pics in your session, and whats the best way to do that? Of course clothing choices, lighting and locations are a huge factor, but changing up poses and facial expressions will give you that added extra pop! Let’s take a peak at what I mean…
8 best types of photos for posing variety in your senior session
Movement– Walking, dancing, turning… motion create laughter, emotion, and help you to feel comfortable in front of the camera. It also allows us to get varying angles of your outfits, and you! How do we do this? When we are shooting we will give prompts, like spin in a circle, walk this line, grab your dress and swish while looking at and away from the camera.
Head shots– always a momma’s fave, headshots are a great way to capture your face, and see the focus on you. Your eyes, your features, and your smile. You will use these for so many things, beyond your senior album- your linked in oriel, rush, your bio pic. What can we do to add some fun to these? Play with your hair, or your earrings, hold your favorite items close to you, tuck your hair behind your ears. We have loads of ways to add interest!
Having fun– show off that silly side, whether you are dancing like crazy or running in your dress, posing with your pet, or your favorite prop, adding that bit of personality livens up your photos, but also captures the essence of you!
Serious– these are my fave! The eyes are the window to the soul, and that soft serious look allows us to get that full pop in your eyes! How best to do this? Relax that forehead, breathe through your lips, push your tongue softly on the roof of your mouth and relax! Our goal is to get a full emotional tone for your photos, so even if this ends in a laugh its a win!
Smiles– Of course, we have to get some smily photos! But, we want to capture a wide variety. From full smiles, to giggles, from soft smiles to everything in between, we want to get the variety of your happy faces!
Candid– These are some of my favorites because they capture you with a level of authenticity. That look you give your mom when she says something silly, the way you look off in the distance, a simple look down and a laugh. Candid means you don’t look at the camera, so let’s have some fun with that!
Full Body– let’s show off your fave outfit, from your head to your shoes! But we like to get variety here too! Leaning on a wall, squatting down, sitting on a wall, maybe even upside down! Let’s get silly and Full body together! woohoo!
Environmental– With each outfit, we like to make sure we get you, and we also get the area. The beach we are on and all the waves, the fountains in the distance, the city skyline. This gives your locations value, and adds to your overall album, and variety!
At KHP our goal is to add each of these types of photos to your senior session. By adding outfit variety, lighting combinations, and these varying categories to your portrait session, we can create the perfect senior story for your senior year!
