📍Parker Flower Farms – Elkton, FL
Parker Flower Farms is six acres of sunflowers, zinnias, cosmos, and other seasonal wildflowers out at 3800 County Road 305 in Elkton, in St. Johns County. It’s the most true-to-life flower field experience in our area: tall blooms, grassy rows, and that golden, sun-drenched look that photographs beautifully for senior portraits.
Where it is: Parker sits far west of St. Augustine, out toward Elkton. It’s gorgeous, but it is not close to the beach. If your senior wants both a flower field look and a beach look it can be a real challenge to get them both at golden hour. It is near the river though, so does give you a water option.
When it blooms: Parker typically blooms twice a year: once in fall, usually October into November, and once in spring, usually April into May. The exact window shifts every year depending on rain and temperature. Last year the field didn’t open until April 21, and with graduation only about a month later, that made for an extremely tight timeline, especially for anyone also waiting on wall art or album decisions. If you want flower field senior pictures, your two real options are planning an early fall session, or going into a spring session knowing the bloom (and your photos) may land close to your graduation deadline.
The fee: Parker Flower Farms charges a photography pass to shoot on their property: $100 for two hours on a weekday, $125 for two hours on a weekend, or $175 for the last two hours before sunset. This fee is usually separate from your session fee with me and is paid directly to the farm.
📍Washington Oaks Gardens State Park – Palm Coast
Technically not a wildflower “field,” Washington Oaks is a lush, manicured ornamental garden, but it’s one of the prettiest spots near St. Augustine for a flower-filled senior session, and you can grab shots on the coquina rock beach nearby too.
Unlike a wildflower field, Washington Oaks blooms on a seasonal garden calendar. Azaleas come first, usually in February. Roses don’t really get going until March, with occasional fall blooms depending on rain and wind. Gardenias also start around March at the earliest. Even outside of peak bloom, the garden’s grasses and greenery carry a lot of color year round, which is part of why it photographs so well no matter when you go. Because the bloom calendar is so specific by flower type, it’s worth planning your visit around what’s actually in season rather than assuming everything blooms at once.
📍Sykes Family Farms – Elkton, FL (Near St. Augustine)
Every spring, this family-run farm blooms with sunflowers, zinnias, and other seasonal florals. It’s an ideal mix of southern charm and vibrant color, perfect for flowy dresses, bare feet, and a carefree vibe.
