The number one question I get asked, is this… what should I wear for my senior session? I always say selecting outfits is like starting to write an essay. It seems overwhelming at first, but once you get an outline, and start writing, it feels manageable. My other advice is to try and avoid looking at the BIG PICTURE and thinking of all the things that have to happen before the big day. By planning in smaller sections, it feels easier! So, how do you start planing for your senior session outfits, why with this outline of course!
Planning for Girls
Ok, so I mentioned an outline, right, so before we start any outline, we have to brainstorm a bit. Lets do that now! What is the style you are going for? I recommend two things for that!
- start by taking the style quiz {scroll down on the linked page} on the web site! Sure, its fun, but it really helps narrow down the styles you are most drawn to. Then spend a few minutes on pinterest to look around and see what it tosses out to you! As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!
- Go through the style guide that you got in your HUB as a KHP client! This is another great way to narrow down WHAT looks you like. Sequins your thing? Perfect? boho or romantic styles? preppy? sporty? what if its a mix of all of them? Great! now you know where to start!
Planning the senior session for girls
So, you have selected your style{s} and are ready to start the plan! Here is how I advise you group your categories
- one trendy outfit
- one long flowy dress
- one shirt flowy dress or skirt with shirt or sweater {or both}.
- one jeans outfits {maybe two if you are a jeans lover}
- one shorts outfit- if you like shorts, and its shorts season. These can be dressy, trendy, casual or jeans!
- A formal dress or pants outfit
- A beach dress, white, soft in color
- your sport/ activity/ fave thing
- Pick your fave style from above, and add another
- Your everyday {elevated} look
See what we did there? Now you have a PLAN! Don’t like shorts, then don’t wear them! Want a jeans skirt, add it in! You can adjust this in any way to fit YOU, your style, and ultimately the location we use! When we meet to do the style consult we will refine all of this, and nail down exactly what you have! You can even shop from the style closet! Need help on where to shop? This blog post will help with that!
Planning the senior session for guys
Some of the same concepts above can be applied. Definitely start with the Guys HUB and style guide in from KHP! Pinterest is a great place to start, and it helps to use “guys fashion” and “guys sports outfits” or “guys casual street style”. Think like a pro athlete here… what are you wearing as you board the plane for your pro sporting event {Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, athletes getting on a plane, off their bus} ! Our pinterest board is a great help too!
Now the outline:
- Something trendy or sporty
- Jeans outfit {if you like jeans}
- Khaki pants outfit- this can be preppy {button up with pullover} or trendy {graphic T} add a jacket for extra choice
- shorts outfit
- joggers or sweats outfits {think pro athlete look, not rushing to class look}
- extra jeans outfit- the opposite of what you did in look 2
- A suit or dressy look {can be with or without a tie- fit YOUR style}
- Your activity, sport or fave thing
- Letterman jacket
- Your everyday {elevated} look
Now do you have to do ALL of this, nope! But, it gives you a jumping off point! Are you preppy, sporty or trendy? some combination? vary your looks, but most of all very your colors. All white t-shirts is never a good plan. And think in layers- add a sweater, a pullover, a jacket, graphic T’s that you relate to. By starting here, you will get to your end goal!
