One of my favorite parts of photographing senior guys is adding their sport of hobbies in to the photos. It makes for some really great {dramatic} shots, and it also gets them excited about their session. George was no different when he did his destination senior session in December in St. Augustine and added golf photos.
We started at the course to do his golf senior photos, and were able to get some creative images with him and the course. By including parts of his interests, it adds variety to a senior session, but it also really works to tell the seniors story- and thats always the goal! George is not from the area, so I picked a golf course that would be easy to use, and still get to St. Augustine since he also wanted to get the beach in his photos.
His family also wanted the huge oak trees, and the best place for that is down at the Fountain of Youth in the oldest city! So, that’s where we headed next! From the textured coquina walls, to the sunlight coming through the beautiful oaks, it was the perfect spot to take some more relaxed photos. By using both a senior activities, and more typical senior photos, we get such a great variety in a session!
Then, we headed to the beach at Vilano, which is my favorite local beach for photos! I always like to get some golden hour photos, and sunset photos at this location. And since the point has 360 degree views, we get varying points of the sunset. My favorite is when we can get an amazing reflection in the low tide, which we could do the evening we did George’s photos.
My goal in any senior session is to tell their individual story so family members, and future generations know who you were at this age. By offering a wide variety of lighting styles, locations, and outfit changes, and adding in your hobbies, we get a series of portraits that not only tell your story, but are unlike anyone else’s senior images.
